HYDRA-STORM Rain Machine was built to make creating rain on stage much easier.
When you’re planning a rain effect, there’s more to think about than just the machine itself. You need to consider some practical logistics first, like how you’ll supply the water, how long the system needs to run, and what happens to the water once it comes back down.
HYDRA-STORM can be configured in different ways depending on the requirements of your project. Here’s a closer look at the three main options.
Short Shows: Direct Water Supply
For shorter performances, HYDRA-STORM can simply be operated using its onboard water tanks. Each rain head has an 8-litre tank, which can be filled with a hose from the nearest suitable water supply.
Simply connect the filling hose to the first unit and fill the system to the required level. The HYDRA-STORM LED display indicates when the heads are full and will automatically shut off the water supply.
It’s a straightforward setup that’s ideal for shorter performances.
At 50% rain intensity, a full 8-litre tank provides approximately 1 minute and 13 seconds of run time. Lowering the rain intensity reduces the water consumption, allowing the system to run for a bit longer.
Extended Water Supply
When a performance needs to run for longer than the onboard tanks can provide, HYDRA-STORM can be configured with an extended water supply.
Additional water tanks are positioned above the rain heads within trussing, with pumps supplying water to the heads throughout the performance. Keeping the tanks above the rain heads avoids the need to route high-pressure water hoses up to the rig, helping to keep the installation organised and efficient. Each header tank can supply up to three HYDRA-STORM units, providing flexibility when configuring the system.
The extended setup is designed to provide the additional water capacity needed for longer performances.
Longer Shows: Recirculation System
For longer durations, HYDRA-STORM can be configured as a recirculation system.
Rather than continually adding fresh water to the system, water is collected as it falls and then circulated back to the rain heads on demand.
Water is collected in Luminous Catchment Tanks beneath the rain system before being pumped through a filtration system and into an external water storage tank. The water is once again filtered and pumped back up to the HYDRA-STORM rain heads ready for another cycle. This creates a closed-loop system designed for longer operation.
Which Water Supply Is Right for Your Project?
The right setup depends on how long you need HYDRA-STORM to run, the available space and the requirements of your installation.
For shorter performances, the onboard tanks provide a simple plug-and-play solution. For slightly longer durations, an extended water supply adds additional capacity. And for longer-term performances, a recirculation system allows the water to be collected, filtered and reused on demand.
