Luminous Show Technology designs and manufactures special effects equipment for the entertainment industry.

We offer a range of off-the-shelf products, including HYDRA-STORM, SHOCK-WAVE, HYDRA-TECH and SMOKE-TECH. For projects requiring a more tailored solution, our bespoke engineering service takes systems from initial concept through to design, manufacture and installation.

We also work as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), designing and manufacturing SFX systems for other companies to supply under their own brand.

As theatre effects specialists, we also provide gas management services, organising the delivery, collection and supply of gases for theatre productions.

Yes, Luminous designs and manufactures its own special effects equipment in our workshop. We have a team of in-house engineers who help conceptualise and design systems, alongside an assembly team who help make them a reality.

Yes, Luminous can fulfil orders internationally, supplying equipment to customers around the world. Logistic elements can be handled by our sales team.

Luminous provides complete technical support for our systems throughout their lifespan. Our team is always on hand to offer help where required.

As a manufacturer, we do not provide operation technicians on site. For installations, our team will set up the system and ensure the team on site knows exactly what they’re doing.

Special Effects

Our team has over 30 years of combined experience in creating special effects. We have expertise across a variety of special effects, including:

  • Flames: Luminous can create gas flames, liquid flames and fireless flames. We can also produce flame distribution systems to manage and distribute fuel.
  • Water: We can provide rain effects, digital rain curtains, water cannons and misting systems. Luminous can also create water distribution systems to manage the supply and flow of water across multiple outputs.
  • Smoke: Luminous creates fog, low fog, smoke screens, smoke jets and smoke distribution systems.
  • Air: We can engineer air mortars, electric fans, Venturi systems, air cannons and air distribution systems.
  • Mechanical: Luminous produces mechanical effects that bring movement and interaction to elements, from lifts and drops to revolving elements and shakes.
  • Control Systems: Luminous offers control systems to manage and synchronise special effects, including enabling, switching and automation solutions.

If you’re interested in purchasing special effects equipment, it’s important to consider the following to help our team understand your requirements:

  • Desired effect: What effect are you looking to create, and what do you want the audience to see or experience?
  • Venue and environment: Is the effect going to be used indoors, outdoors, on stage or within an attraction? What is the proximity to the audience?
  • Available space: Consider the dimensions of the equipment, installation space, access and maintenance requirements.
  • Power and utilities: Check available electrical supplies, water supplies, air and other services where required.
  • Consumables: It’s important to consider what consumables the system will use and whether they are easily available.
  • Control requirements: Will the system need DMX, a dedicated control system, automation or integration with existing control?
  • Runtime: How long and how frequently does the effect need to operate.
  • Touring or permanent installation: Equipment requirements can differ significantly between a touring production and a fixed installation.
